This mango sauce is made of juicy, ripe mangos that highlight its sweet and tangy flavor. Serve this tropical sauce with any dessert or savory dish to add a burst of bright, tropical flavor.
Easy Mango Sauce (Mango Coulis)
If you're looking for an easy mango sauce that can be paired with sweet or savory dishes, look no further!
The naturally sweet, tangy, and tropical flavors of mango make this a delicious sauce that can be drizzled over grilled meats, served as a dipping sauce for spring rolls or satay, used as a topping for desserts like cheesecake, or used as a base for tropical drinks!
This mango sauce is also known as mango coulis because of its smooth, silky, and luscious texture. I recommend using a high speed blender or straining the sauce to get the best results.
Ingredients
Ripe mangos - You can use fresh or frozen mangos. If using frozen mangos, let them thaw completely and keep the juice.
Sugar - I used white granulated sugar but you can use any sweetener of your choice. Be sure to add a small amount first and adjust to your taste, as mangos vary in sweetness.
Lime juice - Lime juice adds brightness and tang to balance out the sweetness.
I recommend using fresh, ripe mangos during their peak growing season because they are less likely to have tough fibers. Ataulfo or Champagne mangos are great varieties because the flesh is sweet and creamy with minimal fiber.
How to Make Mango Sauce
- Peel and dice the mango into chunks. If using frozen mangos, thaw it completely and keep whatever juice gets released.
- In a high speed blender, add the mangos, sugar, and lime juice. Blend until it reaches a smooth consistency.
- (Optional) To make mango coulis, strain the sauce using a fine sieve strainer to remove any mango fibers. Coulis should have a very smooth, silky texture, hence the need to strain the sauce.
What to Serve with Mango Sauce
For desserts, I recommend serving this coulis with any of the following:
- New York Cheesecake
- Sponge Cake
- Genoise
- Chiffon Cake
- Bread Pudding
- Ice Cream
- Pancakes
- Yogurt
- Panna cotta
For savory dishes, mango coulis goes great drizzled over the following:
- Grilled Pork Chops
- Steak
- Grilled Chicken
- Fish
- Shrimp
Variations
- Spice - Add a bit of chili powder, ginger, garlic, or chopped jalapeno peppers for a bit of heat
- Creamy - To make a creamy sauce, add some cream or yogurt for a rich, smooth flavor
